Income Tax Assistance

 

During income tax season, Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri offers tax return preparation assistance through two programs.

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)

Trained volunteers offer face-to-face, free assistance by appointment at a VITA tax clinic. Taxpayers are assisted in preparing and filing their federal and state returns electronically.

For 2015 tax year:

  • Income limit – $54,000 Adjusted Gross Income
  • Location — Holy Trinity Parish, 2818 E. Bennett St., Springfield
  • Dates — Thursdays, beginning February 4 through April 14 (with the exception of Holy Thursday, March 24)
  • Time — 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
  • Make an appointment by calling (417) 720-2000 between the hours of 9 am – 3 pm
  • For information on other VITA sites, call 4-1-1 or (417) 720-2000.
  • Senior citizens (60 years of age or older) can call Tax Counseling for the Elderly at 417-862-0762 for free tax preparation, including the Missouri Property Tax Credit.

MyFreeTaxes program provides access to FREE online software for you to prepare and file your own tax return, both federal and state, for no charge.

Who qualifies
Individuals or families with a household income of $62,000 or less.

How does it work
Simply sign on to MyFreeTaxes.com and follow the directions.

9 am – 9 pm Monday – Friday, 11 am – 8 pm Saturday, Closed Sunday

Do you need access to a computer?
For qualified taxpayers under this program, the use of a computer is available at our offices in Cape Girardeau, Joplin, Sikeston, Springfield and Van Buren. No tax expert is on hand to answer questions, but there is a phone to call the helpline.

Hours to access a computer at our offices are Monday – Friday, 9 am – 4 pm, February 4 through April 14.

  • Bank account information for direct deposit of a refund
