"I took it as an opportunity, you know, like to get all of these certifications and not only that, but to learn more than what I already know and use it as a future experience,” says Dony Hernandez. Apprentices like Dony Hernandez received training from Crowder College and other local businesses to learn new skills that could help them further their technical skills. "Everything with l

Representative Smith gave a donation from his salary during the government shutdown to Pinhook in support of the rebuilding efforts. CCSOMO is coordinating the rebuilding of nine homes utilizing volunteer labor. https://www.facebook.com/CCSOMO/photos/a.198178806896492.45175.168319103215796/1611721662208859/?type=3&

Catholic Charities is honored to be a part of the rebuilding of the homes for the former residents of Pinhook. Their homes were destroyed in 2011 when a levee on the Mississippi River was blown to control flooding elsewhere. Although they had flood insurance, it did not cover because it was a man-made event rather than a natural disaster. https://www.semissourian.com/story/2479957.html A group of former Pinhook, Missouri, residents sing a rendition of the Lord's Prayer at a groundb

We have several group volunteer opportunities, perfect for schools, organizations, mission groups or companies seeking ways to help. HOLISTIC APPROACH With our holistic, family strengthening approach, an effort is made to look at the individual’s total situation. Individuals may come to a food pantry for a donation of food, but a closer investigation shows that lack of food is often only a small piece of the overall picture. For example, it could be that the individual needs a GED in order to qualify for a better job. Or perhaps a history of addiction leads to bad decisions. Sometimes there are other problems within
Thank you to Katy O’Ferrells Irish Pub for hosting a special evening - “Cocktails with the Bishop!” It was such an enjoyable night spent with the friends of Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri, local clergy, village of Pinhook residents and CCSOMO staff. Volunteer Highlight! This wonderful group from Ozark United Methodist Church went to Joplin with us on a very rainy day to load our two box trucks and their trailer with construction materials. They returned to Springfield with us and unloaded into our new warehouse. This project was overwhelming for our staff but these volunteers came in and knocked it out in one trip! Our volunteers are the hands and feet of what we do at Catholic Charities. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities
I went to see some of the children at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School this morning to thank them for their donation to LifeHouse Crisis Maternity Home last week. The school held a baby shower for LifeHouse as part of Catholic Schools Week. They filled our hallways with enough diapers and wipes to supply our new moms for several months! And if that wasn't enough, their teachers spent an evening together making blankets for us. It took two vans to bring everything to us! We are all are overwhelmed
