Immediately after the devastating F5 tornado hit Joplin on May 22, 2011, there was a tremendous outpouring of support from all over the country. It truly is inspiring to see so many come to the aid of others. The caring response has touched the hearts of many, including Maura Taylor, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri, who said "I was reminded of 'the good Samaritan' who did not turn his face away from those in need."
Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri has coordinated and placed over 22,000 volunteers on clean-up, repair, and rebuild projects. In all, these volunteers have donated over 129,000 hours of their time and talent to help their neighbors in need.
